Position Overview
At St. John Ambulance, we are proud of the community impact and training we provide. The role of the National Office is to provide support services and national leadership to the provincial/territorial SJA organizations (Councils) across Canada.
We are looking for a dynamic, well-rounded, hands-on Finance Manager responsible for planning, organizing, and managing the end-to-end general accounting functions of the organization, payroll, and providing leadership to staff.
Responsibilities
- Overview of all accounting transactions and maintaining the integrity of all general ledger transactions.
- Manage all aspects of month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
- Prepare interim and annual audit.
- Payroll processing, maintaining HR files, group benefits, and pension administration.
- File monthly HST rebates and provincial tax returns as required.
- Oversee tax matters and donation receipts as they relate to a registered charity.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and budget analysis.
- Ensure effective team performance through leadership, coaching, and oversight.
- Actively work with the Director of Finance to support the annual budget process and quarterly reporting to the SJA management team.
- Ensure all charitable and not-for-profit (“NFP”) tax reporting requirements are adhered to.
- Other miscellaneous duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in accounting or finance is a must-have.
- CPA designation or near completion of the program would be highly advantageous.
- A minimum of 5 years of finance management experience in a non-profit organization.
- Knowledge of a federated model is nice to have.
- Experience with payroll processing.
- Proficiency with accounting and payroll software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office. (Advanced Excel is a must-have)
- Experience working in a paperless, virtual environment.
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills; bilingualism in English/French would be considered an asset.
- Flexibility in work hours to accommodate organizational needs and deadlines.

- Legally authorized to work in Canada under relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Salary range: Commensurate with experience ($85,000 - $95,000 per annum), including health benefits (Life, LTD, Health, Out of Country), company pension, and three weeks’ vacation. Overtime and schedule flexibility may be required depending on the work schedule.
