Volunteer opportunities
Below are some of the details and benefits of volunteering with our MFR program.
Activities
Medical First Response Services are provided at a variety of community settings including:
- Public gatherings
- Sporting and recreational activities
- Disaster or civil emergencies
Impact
Medical First Responders (MFRs) provide lifesaving first aid and help reduce the risk of further injury or illness.
Without the assistance of our MFRs, many community-based organizations would not be able to offer first aid coverage at public events. Hiring individuals or groups for on-site first aid coverage would be cost-prohibitive for many smaller organizations.
Volunteer Benefits
- Community involvement
- Advanced first aid and healthcare training and experience
- Life skills to benefit personal career development
- The chance to meet new people and make friends
- The opportunity to attend some of your city’s biggest events
Training
St. John Ambulance provides all necessary training to become an MFR. Existing certifications may be assessed for carry-over by your local SJA team.
Program Requirements
- Minimum 16 years of age
- Strong affinity for providing first aid and CPR to others
- Physical and mental capability to assist injured or ill patients
- Obtain a police record check (with letter from the organization)
