About the course
This online course provides the information needed to recognize, assess and control hazards associated with Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) gas.
What is H2S gas?
Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) is a gas commonly found in:
- crude oil and natural gas drilling and production
- wastewater treatment facilities
- utility facilities
- sewers
H2S is produced when organic materials break down without oxygen.
The gas is:
- colourless
- flammable
- poisonous
- corrosive
H2S can be noticeable by its rotten egg smell. Its toxicity is similar to carbon monoxide and can prevent cellular respiration, making monitoring and early detection extremely important.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for individuals or businesses that may require knowledge of H2S gas for employment.
What will you learn?
Participants will learn about:
- the properties of H2S
- health hazards associated with exposure
- detection and monitoring methods
- acceptable exposure limits
Certificate: A participation certificate will be issued upon successful completion of this course.
