Meet Jaser Lara de Larrea!

Volunteering Since 2023

As a Volunteer Medical Responder with Saint John Ambulance, I bring a unique perspective influenced by my background in environmental engineering, where my job is to assess risks and find solutions. In my family and among friends, I’ve always been the one who cares most about safety and first aid, so joining Saint John Ambulance felt like a natural extension of who I am. My first patient as a VMR was a young child who had fallen during a race and had painful lacerations on his knee and arm. He was visibly upset, but as I carefully cleaned the wound, applied a band-aid, and offered words of comfort, I saw his sadness ease, replaced by a newfound calm. That interaction made a lasting impact on me—it was a reminder of how even small actions can make a meaningful difference in someone.

How Does It Feel to Give Back?

"As an engineer, my contributions to public health are often indirect, but through my role as a VMR, I feel that I’m serving my community in a much more immediate and hands-on way. This experience has deepened my connection to Canadian society and shown me the profound value of being directly involved. Each time I step into a situation where someone needs help, I’m reminded of how lucky I am to be part of something that truly makes a difference."
