St. John Ambulance Medical First Response volunteers provide basic and advanced care during exciting community events.

Content Summary

As a medical first response (MFR) volunteer, you’ll provide life-saving first aid and help reduce the risk of further injury or illness at public events.

MFR Volunteers
  • Provide critical care until medical assistance arrives
  • Support public gatherings, sporting and recreational activities, and disaster or civil emergencies
  • Empower community-based organizations who may otherwise be unable to provide the necessary first aid coverage at public events
Before you apply

While we appreciate all interest, there are a series of qualifications that MFR volunteers must meet in order to join the St. John Ambulance team. MFR volunteers must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age or older;
  • Have a strong affinity for providing first aid and CPR to others
  • Have the physical and mental capability to assist injured or ill patients
  • Obtain a police record check (with a letter from the organization)

St. John Ambulance will provide you with all the training needed to become an MFR. If you already have specialized knowledge and certifications, your local team will let you know if those certifications can carry over to St. John Ambulance and how.
