Meet Freddie & David!

David has been part of the Therapy Dog program for many years - first with Rory, then Stella, and now Freddie. Over the years, their visits have taken them to seniors’ homes, young offender facilities, group homes, libraries, and more, always leaving a trail of calm and comfort.

One moment that’s stuck with David happened at a seniors’ residence, where Rory sat quietly beside a non-communicative First Nations elder. A staff member gently guided the man’s hand onto Rory’s head, and slowly, his fingers began to move through the fur, a quiet, stirring response that may have reawakened memories of long-forgotten companions.

At a young offenders’ facility, guards said that just having Rory in the room brought down the tension, giving the young men something to focus on besides each other. And at a children’s reading program, David watched kids gain confidence reading aloud to the dogs — even as hesitant parents overcame their own fear of dogs by the end of the session.

Now, with Freddie, David continues to brighten lives and ease stress. Every time the therapy vest comes out, Freddie lights up, ready for the job he loves most.

How Does It Feel to Give Back?

“It feels great to be able to brighten someone’s day, just by interacting with Freddie. He’s the star.” – David
