SJA Connect: Creating Leaders in our Community
May 20, 2021

SJA Connect is a health, safety and leadership development program for youth aged 14 to 19.

Created in 2015, the program’s goal is to assist youth in developing personal life-long health and safety habits and to become confident community leaders. Through this program, participants can practice essential life and communication skills in a flexible, youth-directed learning environment.

SJA Connect includes six delivery methods available for certificate completion: facilitator-led session, special events, team challenges, self-guided challenges, online learning and external equivalencies. There are three levels of certificates: Leadership Level I, II and III. During the first two levels, youth can take a variety of topics such as: St. John Ambulance in Canada, Why Volunteer, Conflict Resolution, Citizenship, Emergency First Aid/CPR-C, and Emergency Preparedness. In addition to these courses, youth participants engage in over 30 hours of volunteerism in order to earn their certificate. The third Leadership Level Certificate is achieved by completing an additional ten elective topics of their choice from the following modules: Health and Safety, Volunteerism and Community, Leadership and Community, and Life Skills.

SJA Connect has over 200 youth engaged in the program. We will continue our efforts to grow this program to its fullest potential in 2020.
