The Instructor Development Program prepares participants to deliver first aid courses for St. John Ambulance.
The program consists of five days in-class to develop the necessary knowledge and skill to effectively teach first aid. Following the in-class portion, instructor candidates will be paired with experienced instructors to team-teach to further develop their skills.
Finally, all instructor candidates are monitored by an instructor-trainer while teaching a full two-day first aid course. After successful monitoring, candidates are authorized to teach first aid courses on their own.
Candidates move through the post-class process at their own speed and comfort level over a 6-month period. While some progress through and finish their team-teaching and monitoring in under a month, most feel two to three months are required to feel comfortable and confident.
