Communications Coordinator

St. John Ambulance is a humanitarian organization and is a member of the International Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (Order of St. John). We have operated in Canada since 1993 with a mission to improve people’s health, safety, and quality of life through training and community services. St. John Ambulance instructors provide first aid and CPR training to over 500,000 people in Canada each year, and our volunteers provide millions of hours of community service across Canada.
We are seeking a Communications Coordinator who will coordinate, execute, monitor, and measure the communications efforts for the National Office, with a particular focus on our Humanitarian Workforce Program (HWP), under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Communications. The successful candidate should be an excellent writer, have experience in social media, and have strong project management skills. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is energetic, organized, creative, and self-motivated.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Working with an external design agency, develop and execute the social media content strategy for SJA Canada social channels to drive and increase online traffic, increase engagement, increase lead generation and visibility across all channels to support our brand, our volunteer recruitment efforts, and our provincial & territorial Councils;
• Write compelling copy for volunteer recruitment initiatives, national office newsletters, press releases, print ads, website content, blog posts, print assets, presentations, scripts, and grant submissions;
• Working with an external design agency, help manage the development of marketing collateral for the Humanitarian Workforce Program and Emergency Response Unit volunteer recruitment campaigns, and other marketing initiatives that align with brand standards;
• Develop a deep understanding and respect for our brand and client base, and utilize analytics to make smart content recommendations and posting decisions;
• Ensure that all content meets company standards and brand tone and voice;
• Prepare reports on volunteer recruitment campaigns for the Humanitarian Workforce Program and Emergency Response Units based on performance data;
• Communicate the status of projects regularly with the Director of Marketing & Communications, other team members, and applicable internal stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
• University/college degree in journalism, social media, communications, or a related discipline;
• 3+ years of experience in communications, managing social media platforms, developing content for multiple platforms;
• A passion for proper grammar and punctuation – a keen eye for details;
• Experience with implementing SEO best practices in relation to content creation;
• Experience in measuring and analyzing content performance;
• Ability to create content for different audiences with a consistent brand tone of voice;
• Experience in writing email campaigns & webpage content;
• Strong understanding of how to grow within each social media landscape, specific nuances of each platform, and how to capitalize on current trends for brand engagement;
• Excellent project management abilities;
• Strong communication and copywriting skills in English; bilingualism in French is considered a strong asset;
• Ability to work autonomously while also being a great team-player;
• Highly driven and results-oriented with a strong ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands;
• Strong interpersonal skills and excellent customer service skills.
Remuneration and Benefits
$50,000 – 60,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) per year plus full benefits for a period from start date to March 31, 2023 with the possibility of extension.
