The Opportunity:
As an EFA facilitation lead you will join our Emotional First Aid for Peers and Frontline Workers of the Drug Poisoning Crisis (EFA) project team. Your role will be essential in delivering engaging, interactive and impactful mental health training content to stakeholders in our EFA program. You will make a meaningful impact on the lives of peers and frontline workers in Canada.
What this Position Involves:
As an EFA Facilitation Lead you will work within a multidisciplinary team responsible for creating, implementing, and evaluating St. John Ambulance’s Health Canada funded initiative, the Emotional First Aid for Peers and Frontline Workers of the Drug Poisoning Crisis. You will have a strong foundation of mental health knowledge and expertise and understand how to effectively facilitate online trainings and workshops for a live audience.You will hit the ground running and need to be a self-starter, as this role is designed for someone with experience.

St. John Ambulance instructors provide first aid and CPR training to over 500,000 people in Canada each year, and its volunteers provide millions of hours of community service across Canada. About the EFA Program:
Funded by Health Canada, St. John Ambulance has been granted a unique opportunity to provide mental health training to peers and frontline workers who assist individuals using drugs and face direct and/or vicarious trauma in their professional and community roles. This program aims to meet critical needs surrounding mental wellness as it applies to peers and frontline workers of the drug poisoning crisis, with a focus on providing tools to promote resiliency and reducing the impact of grief and burnout in the frontline workforce.

What You Will be Doing:
Delivering Effective Training:
- Utilize provided EFA course materials to effectively deliver engaging, instructor-led online training sessions weekly.
- Implement feedback from pilot trainings to refine delivery.
- Adhere to the training content and curriculum schedule as determined by the EFA Team.
- Create an inclusive and effective learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles.
- Ensure students are aware of learning outcomes, strategies, and assessment techniques.
- Facilitate content in accordance with ethical standards and provincial and federal regulations.
- Record attendance using rosters provided by St. John Ambulance.
Managing the Peer Advisory Committee (P.A,C):
- Oversee and manage the Peer Advisory Committee, including scheduling meetings, planning agendas, and facilitating monthly workshops and discussions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) within the PAC to provide feedback on EFA course materials and strategies to the EFA project team.
- Facilitate communications between the P.A.C. and the project team
- Serve as the primary liaison between the PAC and the project team.
Training EFA Instructors:
- Oversee recruitment of external facilitators for the EFA program.
- Provide training and support to external EFA instructors, using provided EFA Train-the-Trainer materials.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the external facilitators and the project team, managing communications such as program updates.
Collaborating with Stakeholders:
- Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs), SJA Training Team, and the EFA team to design and refine the EFA training and related course materials.
- Other duties as requested to ensure the success of the EFA program.
What We are Looking For:
- Deep empathy and understanding of the drug poisoning crisis in Canada, and a willingness to help those directly and indirectly impacted by the crisis.
- Strong knowledge of substance use, harm reduction, and mental health and wellness (experience in these areas is highly preferred).
- Experience working in community programs relating to substance use, harm reduction, and mental health & wellness considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated success in delivering online training sessions and public speaking.
- Proficiency in managing stakeholder groups and facilitating collaborative workshops.
- A dynamic personality able to generate and maintain new professional relationships with other organizations.
- Advanced working knowledge of tools like Microsoft Office Suite, OneDrive, Planner, Microsoft Teams and Zoom (essential).
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Strong time management skills required, along with a high degree of attention to detail.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies for diverse learning audiences considered an asset.
- Fluency in English is required. French language verbal and written skills are highly desirable.
Working Conditions:
- Overtime and schedule flexibility may be required from time to time
- Some travel within Canada may be required
