St. John Ambulance National Office is seeking candidates to fill the role of Program Officer (2 positions) in our Emergency Management Program (EMP). The EMP is a new initiative within St. John Ambulance, funded through the Government of Canada, to enhance our capability to respond to emergencies and disasters across Canada with our Community Services volunteers.
The Program Officer is a dynamic person who will take on various tasks and projects toward fully implementing the EMP. Depending on your skills, you may be reviewing policy documents one week, and helping build training materials the next. You may be creating an emergency response exercise program, then pivot to helping plan a symposium.
The Program Officer will report to the Emergency Management Program Manager at the National Office and should possess experience in team collaboration, since the National Office works closely with regional SJA offices known as Councils. Relationship building with various stakeholders within the organization will be imperative to success.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute their skills and knowledge to the following areas:
- Working collaboratively with regional SJA offices in the development and implementation of the Emergency Management Program.
- Communicating with regional SJA offices and key stakeholders to ensure timely and transparent communication between regional SJA offices and National Office.
- Assisting with the development of documents and materials for policy, recruitment, onboarding, training, exercises, deployments, equipment tracking, etc.
- Promoting the development of national and regional relationships with communities disproportionately impacted by disaster, including but not limited to indigenous communities.
- Reviewing training courses designed by SJA for Emergency Response Unit members.
- Supporting, through research and coordination, the procurement of equipment required by the Emergency Response Units.
- Coordinating and scheduling the relocation of resources to support training, recruitment, deployments, etc.
- Assisting with the planning and hosting of national conferences.
- Supporting the deployment of Emergency Response Units to emergencies and disasters.
Qualifications
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- A dynamic personality able to generate and maintain professional relationships within the organization.
- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong writing skills and the ability to write for a variety of audiences.
- Ability to produce outputs in a timely manner.
- A post-secondary diploma/degree in Emergency Management or a related field, or a suitable combination of education and working experience.
- Experience within the not-for-profit sector is an asset.
- Familiarity with Emergency Management, Planning, and/or Response is an asset.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, and/or Photoshop is an asset.
- Fluency in French and English communications is an asset.
